A Charizard UPC is one of the most exciting boxes in the Pokemon TCG. UPC stands for Ultra-Premium Collection, the most lavish type of collection box The Pokemon Company releases, and when Charizard is on the front, demand is always huge.
The latest Charizard UPC is the Mega Charizard X ex Ultra-Premium Collection, released on 14 November 2025 alongside the Phantasmal Flames expansion. This guide explains what is inside, how it compares with other products and what to check before you buy one in Australia.
What Is a Charizard UPC?
An Ultra-Premium Collection is a large premium box that combines exclusive promo cards, high-quality accessories and a big stack of booster packs. They are designed as showpieces for collectors and complete kits for players. A Charizard UPC focuses everything on the most famous Pokemon in the card game.
There have been other Charizard-themed Ultra-Premium Collections over the years, including one released in 2022, but the Mega Charizard X ex box is the current one most collectors mean when they search for a Charizard UPC.
What Is Inside the Mega Charizard X ex Charizard UPC?
The box includes:
- 1 foil promo card featuring Mega Charizard X ex
- 1 foil promo card featuring Oricorio ex
- 65 card sleeves featuring Mega Charizard X
- 1 playmat featuring Mega Charizard X
- 1 deck box featuring Mega Charizard X
- 1 metal coin featuring Mega Charizard X
- 6 damage-counter dice
- 18 Pokemon TCG booster packs
- A code card for Pokemon TCG Live
The promo cards are alternate-artwork versions, and the Oricorio ex promo helps players get more Fire Energy into play to fuel Mega Charizard X ex’s Inferno X attack.
Why Collectors Love a Charizard UPC
Charizard has been the most sought-after Pokemon in the card game since 1999. This kind of box combines that demand with premium accessories you cannot get elsewhere, which is why they sell out quickly and are often limited to one per customer at release.
For collectors
The promo cards and themed accessories make the box a centrepiece. Many collectors keep one sealed as a display piece and open another.
For players
The playmat, sleeves, deck box, coin and dice give you everything you need for a match, and the 18 booster packs provide a strong pool of cards to build with.
Charizard UPC vs Other Charizard Products
If the box is outside your budget, there are other ways to collect Charizard:
- Phantasmal Flames booster packs: chase the Mega Charizard X ex cards yourself
- Charizard singles: buy the exact card you want
- Older Charizard sets: Obsidian Flames has Charizard ex with Darkness-type Tera powers
- Collection boxes: smaller boxes often include Charizard promos
Our Obsidian Flames booster packs are an affordable way to chase a classic modern Charizard.
What to Check Before Buying a Charizard UPC
Because this is a premium product, check these points before you buy:
- Seal: the box should be factory sealed with no tears or re-taping
- Seller: buy from an established store with clear contact details
- Price: compare a few Australian retailers, because prices change after release
- Shipping: large boxes should be shipped with padding and tracking
- Version: make sure you know which Charizard collection you are buying
Should you open it or keep it sealed?
That is a personal choice. Opening is the fun part, while keeping a box sealed is a long-term collecting decision. Sealed values can go down as well as up, so buy one because you love it, not because you expect a guaranteed return.
How to Store a Charizard UPC
Ultra-Premium Collections are big and the boxes can crush or fade. Store yours flat or upright on a sturdy shelf, out of direct sunlight, with nothing heavy stacked on top. Keep the promo cards in sleeves and toploaders once opened, and store the playmat rolled or flat so it does not crease.
Our sleeves and card protectors and binders keep your Charizard cards safe for years. If you plan to display the box itself, keep it away from windows, because sunlight fades printed cardboard faster than most people expect.
Who Should Buy a Charizard UPC?
An Ultra-Premium Collection is not for everyone, so think about how you will use it.
- Charizard collectors: the exclusive promos and themed accessories are the main draw.
- Players: the playmat, sleeves and deck box are high quality and ready to use.
- Gift buyers: few Pokemon presents feel as special to open.
- Pack openers: 18 booster packs make for a long, exciting opening session.
If you only want booster packs, a booster box or booster bundle is usually a cheaper way to get them. The value of an Ultra-Premium Collection comes from the promos and accessories.
A Short History of Charizard Premium Boxes
Charizard has headlined many premium products over the years, from collection boxes to Ultra-Premium Collections. Each new release tends to follow the same formula: exclusive alternate-art promos, matching accessories and a large stack of packs. That consistency is part of the appeal, because collectors know they are getting a complete, themed set of items built around their favourite Pokemon.
Opening night ideas
If you decide to open yours, make an event of it. Invite friends, lay out the playmat, sleeve the promos first and take turns opening the 18 packs. Keep a list of the best pulls and trade duplicates at the end.
Is the Box Good Value?
Value depends on what you want from it. If you add up the promos, the accessories and the 18 packs, a premium collection can be good value at the recommended price. If you only want the packs, it rarely is. Prices also tend to rise once a Charizard box sells out at major retailers, so the best time to buy is usually around release. Always compare a few Australian stores and factor in shipping before you decide.
